Double Morris | Sunshine Numbers LP

Double Morris is the songwriting project of Zoots Houston who is typically a sideman - he has collaborated with a wide range of folks, from Ryley Walker to Fred Londberg-Holm, to playing in Rider/Horse. Less eloquent than Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazlewood, and Roger Miller, Zoots relies on a similar combo of comedy and tragedy within the lyrics. These songs are addled by alcohol and rattled by misguided romance. The music is country at heart, but not necessarily country in sound. In fact, one might hear a little bit of Chicago/Thrill Jockey within these grooves, maybe a bit of classic noise rock a la Polvo, with Matthew Schneider's pedal steel playing a uniquely dynamic role - but what thrills us the most about this music is the yearning, beating heart at the center of it all. The music is loose but dense, the delivery confessional and earnest. Very proud to be a part of this and to help get it out into the world.
