Reformations: Jane Waggoner Deschner & Maggy Rozycki Hiltner

For over twenty years , Jane Waggoner Deschner has been using found photographs—family snapshots and professionally-captured studio portraits—as her medium. By embroidering into discarded photos, she enhances and recontextualizes them. Kirks’ will feature her work from 2023, when she began utilizing archival prints of scanned photos to make multiple interpretations of a single original image. Reformations also includes vintage found postcards she altered by stitching odd things into them.

Maggy Rozycki Hiltner will be showing a new series of work: large-scale photographs on wood of her transitory wig and fur assemblages. These explore composition and texture as well as ideas of femininity and hirsute attraction/repulsion. Reformations will also include Hiltner’s cabinet of curiosities full of small stitched and assembled works.
